Notes:
|
From
the film of the same name, the quintessential Elvis Presley ballad, backed
by Ken Darby's Trio.
Darby actuallycomposed the tune, basing it on an actual Civil war ballad called "Aura Lee" but publishing concerns caused him to give writing credit to his wife Vera & Elvis. The film version of the song is longer due to an extra verse. Elvis also performed this song on all three Sullivan shows. Elvis actually said he disliked the cut because of flat singing in parts, but there were a million advance orders before its recording! The track was also performed in the films Thats The Way It Is and Elvis On Tour, though these versions were unreleased on record. |
